Position Overview

The Clinical Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining efficient patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervising nursing staff. The role includes staff evaluations, assisting with cost containment, and managing staff to meet operational goals. Knowledge of leadership and strong interpersonal communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
• Two to four years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant specialty

Responsibilities

Leadership

• Supervise staff, coach and mentor team members
• Manage shift operations, patient flow, and resource allocation
• Lead operational improvements and ensure compliance with UC Health values and standards
• Develop departmental policies and standards
• Handle staffing, scheduling, and promote patient safety
• Identify opportunities for patient satisfaction improvements and lead related initiatives
• Facilitate conflict resolution and support staff professional development

Resource Management

• Use resources efficiently to support patient care
• Ensure availability and functionality of equipment and supplies
• Participate in hiring, orientation, and staff coaching
• Address staff performance and conduct corrective actions as needed

Performance and Compliance

• Ensure practice compliance with legal and regulatory standards (EMTALA, HIPAA, House Bill 316)
• Engage staff in performance improvement activities
• Monitor and evaluate patient care quality and staff performance

Clinical Competency

• Maintain required nursing competencies and facilitate staff education
• Serve as a clinical resource and promote evidence-based practices
• Support staff professional growth
