Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Clinical Practice Specialist to support the Inpatient Post Surgical Care Unit and Float Pool Staff, leading education and quality initiatives. The role emphasizes advancing clinical practice, staff development, and patient safety through evidence-based methods.

You will collaborate with leadership to implement competency assessments, standardize clinical processes, and mentor frontline staff while aligning with NM’s values and ethics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
• Master's in Nursing or plan to obtain within 4 years of starting role.
• Registered Nurse license issued by the State of Illinois.
• Certification in related clinical area or to obtain when eligible.
• 3–5 years’ experience in a specific clinical area.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements education opportunities for staff based on needs assessments and program goals.
• Supports staff seeking specialty certification and monitors progress.
• Reviews unit/division dashboards and identifies quality improvement actions.
• Monitors quality data with the operational manager and creates action plans.
• Leads inter-professional teams for unit/enterprise clinical process improvement.
• Plans and evaluates safety training, including simulations and policy reviews.
• Mentors staff, participates in RN peer review, and coaches unit leaders.
• Identifies gaps in staff knowledge and remediates through targeted education.
• Participates in leadership meetings and cross-department projects to advance care quality.
