Description

The Surgical Trauma Critical Care Unit, located in the new North Carolina Surgical Hospital, is a fast-paced, Level 1 Trauma certified, Beacon Gold Award for Excellence designated, 40-bed unit specializing in the care of critically injured trauma and surgical patients. It serves various surgical and trauma patients, including but not limited to transplant, plastics, oncology, obstetrics, gynecology, gastrointestinal, and orthopedics. Teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration are essential, providing expert "Carolina Care" to patients and families. Our team manages admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges 24/7.

This is a 36-hour per week position, with rotating shifts from 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am. It qualifies for an extensive benefits package, including the UNC Hospitals RN Incentive Program, which offers up to $20,000 commitment incentive or up to $25,000 in tuition loan forgiveness, plus relocation assistance and employee referral bonuses. Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care aligned with professional standards. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process, reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director.

Responsibilities

  • Education: Identifies learning needs, participates in educational programs, assesses readiness, and uses relevant patient education materials.
  • Evaluation of Care: Sets expected outcomes, revises care plans as needed, and communicates with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Implementation: Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex needs, performs bedside testing, and organizes care based on patient needs.
  • Leadership: Develops professional goals, participates in unit improvement activities, and promotes a safe environment.
  • Patient Assessment: Recognizes data to prioritize care, assesses discharge needs, and builds relationships with families.
  • Planning: Collaborates with patients and families, considers cultural factors, and prioritizes tasks.
  • Research: Engages with current studies and shares ideas for practice improvement.

Other Information

Education Requirements: Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Enrolled in or completed a BSN or MSN within specified timelines if hired after Jan 6, 2014.

Licensure/Certification: NC RN license, BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Experience: Minimum one year of nursing experience.

Skills/Abilities: Strong assessment, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to handle complex patient needs.
