Job summary

Mercy Hospital Washington in Missouri is seeking an experienced RN Clinical Nurse Educator to lead educational initiatives for the Surgical & Orthopedic Care Unit. You will develop onboarding, competency validation, and continuing education for licensed and unlicensed coworkers, promoting evidence-based practice and patient safety.

This role partners with leadership to close performance gaps, supports nurse residency programs and academic partnerships, and serves as a mentor and coach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing with at least 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
• ADN with 10 years of hospital nursing experience, or 5 years with RN-to-BSN program.
• Current RN license and AHA BLS Certification.
• Strong knowledge of evidence-based practice and patient safety.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and healthcare technology.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement onboarding, orientation, competency, and continuing education programs for licensed and unlicensed coworkers.
• Create evidence-based educational curricula aligned with Mercy's Nursing Professional Practice Model, patient experience initiatives, and organizational goals.
• Coordinate orientation schedules and maintain education and competency records.
• Utilize adult learning principles through simulation, mock events, case studies, and virtual or in-person learning opportunities.
• Foster a positive learning environment that promotes critical thinking and clinical excellence.
• Partner with leadership to identify performance gaps and develop educational action plans.
• Support nurse residency programs, professional development, and academic partnerships.
• Serve as a mentor, preceptor, coach, and role model for nursing staff.
• Lead and support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.Maintain expertise in EMR systems, learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and patient care technologies.
• Educate staff on HIPAA, infection prevention, emergency preparedness, and organizational policies.
