Job summary

Mercy is seeking an experienced RN Clinical Nurse Educator for the Surgical & Orthopedic Care Unit at Mercy Hospital Washington, MO. The role focuses on onboarding, competency validation and ongoing staff education to support nursing excellence.

You will develop evidence-based curricula, coordinate orientation and maintain records, using simulation and case studies to foster clinical competency and safe patient care.

Qualifications

• BSN required with 2+ years of clinical nursing experience.
• ADN accepted with 10 years of hospital nursing experience or 5 years plus active RN-to-BSN enrollment.
• Current RN license and AHA BLS certification required.
• Strong knowledge of evidence-based practice and patient safety.
• Excellent organizational, communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement onboarding, orientation, competency and continuing education programs.
• Create curricula aligned with Mercy Nursing Practice Model and organizational goals.
• Coordinate orientation schedules and maintain education records.
• Utilize adult learning principles through simulation and case studies.
• Foster a positive learning environment that encourages critical thinking.
• Partner with leadership to identify performance gaps and develop action plans.
• Support nurse residency programs, professional development and academic partnerships.
• Serve as mentor, preceptor, coach and role model for nursing staff.
• Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
