Job summary

Capital Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Des Moines, IA is seeking an RN, Clinical Lead to join our Orthopaedic team. You will coordinate patient and clinic flow to support efficient physician schedules and daily operations, and serve as a key liaison between physicians, clinical staff, leadership, and patients.

You will provide direct clinical support to physicians and physician assistants, assist with procedures, document in the EMR, and ensure accurate orders and postoperative instructions.

Qualifications

• Active RN license required.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.
• 1–4 years in a high-volume clinic or hospital setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of EMR systems and medical terminology; orthopaedic experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and mandatory reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient and clinic flow to support efficient physician schedules and daily operations.
• Serve as a key liaison between physicians, clinical staff, leadership, and patients.
• Prepare patient charts and obtain/document patient histories and chief complaints in the EMR.
• Provide direct clinical support to physicians and physician assistants in and outside the exam room.
• Assist with surgical procedures, diagnostic testing, referrals, prior authorizations, and other physician-directed services.
• Prepare and document physician orders, prescriptions, surgical consents, screening questionnaires, and required patient forms.
• Apply and remove casts, splints, and DME as directed, including appropriate billing documentation.
• Provide patient education and post-operative instructions according to physician protocols.
• Assist with in-office procedures, including room preparation, equipment sterilization, and cleanup.
• Perform X-rays according to physician protocols, when applicable.
• Respond to patient, physician, and coworker questions and ensure appropriate documentation in the EMR.
• Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms and ensure equipment and instruments are properly sterilized.
• Regular in-office attendance is required; occasional availability outside normal business hours may be needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, twist, lift, grip, carry, and perform other physical activities required in a clinical setting.
• Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
• Adequate vision and hearing to safely perform job duties.
