Job summary

Iowa Ortho in Iowa is seeking a skilled surgical RN to provide perioperative patient care across preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases for outpatients, spanning infant to geriatric populations. The role features Monday–Friday hours, with no weekends and no on-call, in a supportive, drama-free team environment.

Applicants must hold an Iowa RN license and ACLS qualification (or obtain within 6 months); prior perioperative experience and patient education knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

  • R.N. with license to practice in State of Iowa.
  • ACLS qualification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of perioperative services and patient education.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and evaluate outpatients perioperatively for smooth patient flow.
  • Obtain lab specimens and stay current with perioperative nursing trends.
  • Review outpatient charts preoperatively for completeness and consent.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients and families.
  • Circulate cases, provide airway management and anesthesia support as needed.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement and regulatory compliance.

The Iowa Orthopedic Center, Surgery Center, a center of excellence, is currently searching for a skilled surgical RN who wants to work in a supportive, drama free environment and be a part of an amazing team! The OR RN will provide perioperative patient care, specifically outpatients during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical experience according to established standards of care. Serves the populations ranging from infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and evaluate outpatients perioperatively in an efficient and caring manner to provide for a smooth patient flow throughout their experience. Collects, assesses, and analyzes patient data using nursing diagnoses to develop plan of care.
  • Responsible for obtaining appropriate lab specimens. Maintains knowledge of equipment and stays abreast of current perioperative nursing trends.
  • Review outpatient charts immediately preoperatively to ensure completeness, including completion of all preoperative consents.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with staff, physicians, patients, families and other health care team members.
  • Conduct assessments according to facility guidelines.
  • Prepares for surgical cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia, and other surgical team members.
  • Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of that environment.
  • Circulates cases independently as assigned.
  • Provides airway management.
  • Ongoing physiological assessment through all phases of the surgical experience, including medication and pain management.
  • Participates in the performance improvement process. Assists with regulatory compliance throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrates competence in specified computer applications.
  • Adheres to all Joint Commission standards and CMS Rules and Regulations.
Requirements
  • R.N. with license to practice in State of Iowa.
  • Mandatory reporting course within previous 3 years.
  • Knowledge of perioperative services and patient education desired.
  • Maintains ACLS qualification, or obtains within 6 months of hire.
