Job summary

UAB Medicine's Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in Alabama seeks a Nursing Leader to coordinate staffing and lead clinical objectives, ensuring high-quality patient care in the assigned area.

The role involves directing nursing and support staff, assessing daily care needs, and contributing to staff development and performance evaluations. A Bachelor-nurse pathway is ideal with required RN licensure and BLS/ACLS/PALS as noted.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. AHA or Red Cross accepted.
• ACLS and PALS may be required in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6 months of date hire or transfer.
• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute to or perform performance evaluations of staff.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring population-appropriate patient care.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
• Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

Our Medical Intensive Care (MICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East features 12 beds where we provide quality intensive care for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical needs. Managed by a dedicated intensivist team, we offer a structured team approach and offer a dynamic environment for clinical growth

Job Description

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinicalobjectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
