Job summary

Our Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East features 12 beds and delivers comprehensive critical care for adults and geriatrics.

The nurse leader coordinates staffing, ensures clinical objectives, and maintains high-quality patient care in the assigned area. The role emphasizes staff leadership, daily patient assignments, and ongoing evaluation of care outcomes within a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Active Alabama RN license is required.
• BLS within 30 days of hire; ACLS/PALS may be required in some units.
• Diploma from an accredited school of nursing; 1 year of cumulative job-specific experience.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift; may contribute to performance evaluations.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify issues affecting outcomes.
• Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• Provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating staff.

Job Description

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinicalobjectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute toor perform performance evaluations of staff.


• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.


• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.


• Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.


• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.


• ACLS and PALS may be reguired in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.


• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required
