Job summary

UAB Medicine's Medical Intensive Care Unit in Alabama is seeking a seasoned RN to coordinate unit staffing and lead a dedicated team during the full-time night shift (7p-7a). This role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care in a structured, supportive environment.

You will assign and supervise nursing staff, assess daily patient needs, and ensure timely care while addressing issues and staff development.

Qualifications

• RN licensed in Alabama with current credentials.
• BLS required; ACLS/PALS may be required within 6 months.
• Experience in MICU/critical care desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership during the assigned shift.
• Assign and monitor nursing and support staff, and contribute to performance evaluations.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop patient care assignments to ensure appropriate care.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify issues impacting outcomes.
• Respond to patient care complaints and manage through established channels.

Our Medical Intensive Care (MICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East features 12 beds where we provide quality intensive care for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical needs. Managed by a dedicated intensivist team, we offer a structured team approach and offer a dynamic environment for clinical growth

Job Description

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinicalobjectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute toor perform performance evaluations of staff.


• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.


• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.


• Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.


• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.


• ACLS and PALS may be reguired in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.


• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required
