UAB Medicine’s Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East is a 12-bed unit providing advanced care for adult and geriatric patients. The RN shift lead coordinates staffing, ensures clinical objectives are met, and supports a structured team approach for growth.

The role includes supervising nurses and support staff, distributing patient assignments, and evaluating care effectiveness while addressing patient concerns. A diploma in nursing with AL RN licensure is required.

Formación

• Must hold RN licensure in Alabama.
• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and/or PALS may be required in some MICU units within 6 months of hire.
• Diploma in Nursing or equivalent with licensure/certification.

Responsabilidades

• Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care.
• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift; contribute to performance evaluations.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop/distribute patient assignments for population-appropriate care.
• Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and address issues affecting outcomes.
• Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating staff.

Our Medical Intensive Care (MICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East features 12 beds where we provide quality intensive care for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical needs. Managed by a dedicated intensivist team, we offer a structured team approach and offer a dynamic environment for clinical growth

Job Description

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinicalobjectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute toor perform performance evaluations of staff.


• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.


• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.


• Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.


• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.


• ACLS and PALS may be reguired in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.


• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required
