Job summary

UAB Medicine’s Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in Alabama seeks a nursing leader to coordinate unit staffing and ensure delivery of high-quality patient care for adults and geriatric patients with complex needs. You will lead a dedicated team under an intensivist framework, driving clinical objectives and performance in a dynamic care environment.

The role requires RN licensure in Alabama, BLS within 1 month, and potential ACLS/PALS within 6 months.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider required within 1 month of hire date
• ACLS and PALS may be required within 6 months in some units
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing

• Assess daily patient care needs and develop patient care assignments

Our Medical Intensive Care (MICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East features 12 beds where we provide quality intensive care for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical needs. Managed by a dedicated intensivist team, we offer a structured team approach and offer a dynamic environment for clinical growth

Job Description

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinicalobjectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute toor perform performance evaluations of staff.


• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.


• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.


• Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.


• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.


• ACLS and PALS may be reguired in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.


• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required
