Description:Critical Care Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.Responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.Preparing and administering medications, and recording them accurately.Reporting adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with policy.Providing basic bedside care.Initiating patient education plans as prescribed by physicians.Teaching patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury.Explaining post-treatment home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, self-administration of medication, and rehabilitation.Recording patients' medical information and vital signs.Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.Preparing equipment and assisting physicians during examinations and treatments.Responding to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.Recording all care information accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.Applying hemodynamic, phlebotomy, and IV protocols.Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment used on patients.Interpreting and recording electronic displays from life support equipment.Monitoring catheters, leads, and tubing for proper placement and functioning.Initiating corrective action whenever monitoring shows adverse symptoms.
