Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient condition continuously and respond to stability changes.
• Maintain patient-to-nurse ratio of 4:1.
• Utilize EPIC charting for accurate documentation.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes.
• Float to other units as staffing needs arise.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Cardiovascular Care Unit (CVU) provides specialized medical, pre-operative, and post-operative care to medium-to-high acuity patients with cardiac and related conditions. This role involves managing a diverse patient population, monitoring patient stability, and delivering high-level nursing care while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams. The nurse is expected to maintain accurate documentation and respond promptly to changing clinical situations in a fast-paced cardiovascular environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with cardiac diagnoses such as Acute MI, CHF, arrhythmias, and post-cardiac surgery including CABG and carotid endarterectomy.
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures including pacemaker insertion.
• Monitor patient condition continuously and respond rapidly to changes in stability.
• Maintain a maximum patient-to-nurse ratio of 4:1 to ensure quality care.
• Utilize the EPIC charting system for accurate and timely patient documentation.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes and continuity of care.
• Float to other units such as Medical/Surgical as staffing needs arise.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Minimum of 2 years critical care nursing experience.
• Proficiency in EPIC electronic health records system.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration abilities.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Previous successful completion of travel nursing assignments.
• Experience caring for diverse patient populations with complex co-morbidities.

Special Considerations:

• Ability to float to other hospital units based on staffing demands.

Scheduling:

• Day shifts in a 30-bed Cardiovascular Care Unit.
• Shift patterns may vary based on unit needs and staffing requirements.
