GW Hospital in Washington, DC seeks an experienced acute care RN for the ICU/CVICU Bridge Program. Limited seats available for a structured transition into high-acuity ICU and CVICU units.

Responsibilities include direct patient care in CVICU/CTICU, multidisciplinary collaboration, advanced monitoring, and patient education. Eligible candidates hold DC RN license with BLS/ACLS and 18+ months of acute care experience.

Qualifications

• Current DC RN license or eligible.
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum 18 months acute care RN experience; IMC/stepdown/cardiovascular experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to CVICU/CTICU patients, monitor vitals, administer meds, and follow physician orders.
• Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, and other team members for coordinated care.
• Utilize advanced monitoring to assess cardiac rhythms and hemodynamics, respond to changes in patient status.
• Educate patients and families about postoperative care, medications, and recovery expectations.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

Our ICU Units at GW Hospital:

• Medical ICU (MICU): High-complexity patients requiring advanced critical care interventions.
• Surgical ICU (SICU): Specializing in trauma, neuro, and post-operative intensive care.
• Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU): Advanced cardiac support including open-heart surgery recovery and ECMO therapy.

Responsibilities:

• Patient Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the CVICU/CTICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and implementing physician orders.
• Critical Thinking: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in managing complex medical and surgical conditions.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
• Monitoring: Utilize advanced monitoring equipment to assess and interpret cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic parameters, and other relevant data. Respond promptly to changes in patient status.
• Patient and Family Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families regarding postoperative care, medications, and potential complications. Offer emotional support and guidance during the recovery process.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
• Quality Improvement: Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and contribute to the continuous improvement of nursing practices within the CVICU/CTICU.

• Minimum 18 months of acute care RN experience. IMC, progressive care, cardiovascular, stepdown settings preferrred.
