Job summary

Kootenai Health in Idaho is seeking an RN for Day Surgery to support perioperative services. The role emphasizes relationship-based care, teamwork and evidence-based practice to ensure safe, compassionate patient experiences in the Day Surgery Center.

Ideal candidates hold an RN license in Idaho (or multi-state compact), with 3+ years’ patient-facing RN experience, and have ACLS/PALS and BLS within specified timelines. BSN preferred; opportunities include benefits and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program.
• Licensed RN with a minimum 3 years' patient-facing RN experience at time of hire; BSN or higher preferred.
• Non-BSN RNs with less than 3 years' patient-facing RN experience must enroll in a BSN (or higher) within 1 year and complete within 3 years.
• Idaho RN licensure or multistate compact licensure before start date.
• CCRN/CNOR or 1 year in Critical Care, Emergency or OR/PACU as applicable.
• ACLS and PALS required within 90 days; BLS required.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 35 lbs; strong teamwork and communication.

Responsibilities

• Assists physician during examinations and procedures; administers medications within RN scope.
• Promotes patient independence by setting care goals and teaching patient/family.
• Performs a variety of tasks with creativity and latitude.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures in the field.
• Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit.

• Department Perioperative Services - Operating Room

Position Summary

In alignment with the specific operational needs and hours of the Day Surgery Center, the RN - Day Surgery promotes optimal health, well-being and safety through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, and the Idaho Nurse Practice Act. Provides relationship based care as demonstrated by recognizing the patient, family and/or designee as a full partner in providing compassionate, coordinated and culturally competent care based on respect for patient's preferences, values, and needs. Engages fully within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care. Integrates best current evidence into clinical practice and uses data to monitor and improve the outcomes of care processes. Uses information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.

• Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patient and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills
• Performs a variety of tasks
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
• Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program
• Licensed RN with a minimum 3 years' patient-facing RN experience at time of hire, ADN or diploma required; BSN or higher preferred
• All non-BSN RN's with less than 3 years' patient-facing RN experience at time of hire are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate (or higher) degree program in nursing within 1 year of employment, with completion within 3 years of hire
• State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multistate privilege to practice" compact with Idaho prior to start date
• CCRN, CNOR, or a minimum of 1 year experience in Critical Care, Emergency or OR/PACU required, as applicable
• ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of hire
• BLS required

Working Conditions

• Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
