Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager of Skilled Nursing/ADON is responsible for supervising and evaluating patient care performed by nursing personnel within their assigned skilled nursing facility/service area. This role works closely with and supports the nursing manager/DON to ensure high-quality service delivery and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. It coordinates and oversees patient assignments, staff scheduling, patient flow, and assists in meeting financial targets by managing utilization, productivity, personnel, and supplies effectively.

  1. Assist the nursing manager/DON in planning, developing, and supervising the daily activities of nursing personnel and oversee staffing needs for the facility/service area.
  2. Collaborate with facility/service area leaders to develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  3. Oversee clinical operations and quality assurance, monitor nursing care delivery, conduct assessments, and participate in clinical meetings.
  4. Provide coverage for the nursing manager/DON and fill in for nursing staff, providing direct patient care as needed.
  5. Oversee medication management practices, including administration, storage, and documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  6. Coordinate and provide ongoing in-service education and training to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  7. Ensure compliance with regulations, participate in surveys, audits, and inspections, and stay updated on regulatory changes.
  8. Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders including staff, residents, families, and external entities.
  9. Manage employee engagement and people processes in collaboration with Human Resources, including hiring, evaluations, employee development, retention, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE), or Completion of an IEP Certificate required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of relevant healthcare experience required.
  • Previous leadership experience in healthcare required.
  • Experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN license valid in California required, or
  • Both of the following are required: LVN license in California and RN license within 180 days of hire or transfer, plus BLS certification from AHA.
