UnityPoint Health’s LifeFlight team seeks a Registered Nurse to provide critical care transport across hospital, aircraft, and ground ambulance settings. You will work under LifeFlight Medical Director guidance, practicing within Iowa RN scope, collaborating with physicians to assess, plan, and execute patient care with precision and compassion.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Minimum 3-5 years full-time experience in a high-volume Trauma Center or ICU.
• Current Iowa RN licensure and BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP certifications (or obtain within 3 months).

Responsibilities

• Assess patient and family needs, provide teaching, and make referrals for continuity of care.
• Develop an individualized plan of care with patient/family and health care team.
• Complete documentation to maintain an accurate legal record of care.
• Deliver high-quality care using the nursing process per policies and standards of care.
• Use a holistic approach considering diversity, safety, and related criteria for the patient age group.
• Delegate and provide direction for other team members within scope of practice.
• Apply critical thinking in nursing interventions while maintaining accountability.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.


• Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.


• Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.


• Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.


• Utilizes holistic approach (considering diversity, biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.


• Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within their scope of practice and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.


• Utilizes critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.

Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Experience:

• Minimum 3-5 years full-time full-time with high volume Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center and/or Intensive Care Unit

License(s)/Certifications(s):

• Current RN licensure in Iowa



• Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.




• Approved Trauma Course (required upon hire)




• CFRN (required within 2 years of hire)




• Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Other:

• Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.


• Work may require travel to other UPH facilities our bases of operation. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.


• Ability to perform functions of the job in all conditions of the environment including weather extremes, noise, vibration and aviation (fumes, flicker, altitude, turbulence).
