Job summary

Allegheny Health Network's Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh seeks a dedicated RN for the 6A Stepdown Unit. You will provide high-acuity care, perform assessments, implement nursing plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to transition patients from MICU through discharge.

The role requires PA RN licensure (or multi-state via eNLC), CPR, and at least one year of general nursing experience; unit experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Current PA RN licensure or current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• CPR certification.
• One (1) year general nursing experience required.
• One (1) year on specific unit preferred.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Responsible and accountable for a designated patient population for the purpose of providing care based upon enactment of the nursing process.
• Demonstrates clinical assessment skills and care planning skills.
• Provides safe and effective care for the age population served according to regulatory requirements.
• Professionally directs and manages the activities of the patient care delivery by the team members.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team for the plan of care from admission through discharge.

Department: 6A Stepdown
Shift: 48 hours every two weeks, scheduled between 11am Friday and 7am Monday, orientation may require full-time work for a concentrated period of time. Rotation with rotating weekends and holiday per policy.

Unit Overview

Allegheny General's 6A Stepdown Unit is a 30-bed unit specializing in care of ICU stepdown patients and complex medical cases. Primarily serving as a receiving unit for patients stepping down from MICU, 6A also admits patients from the Emergency Department, outside hospitals, and smaller ICUs requiring a higher level of care for stabilization. The unit frequently cares for patients with respiratory issues (with respiratory therapy available on the floor), drug and alcohol withdrawal, GI bleeds, altered mental status, sepsis, and congestive heart failure (CHF). Nurses manage a high-acuity patient population requiring frequent blood product administration, intravenous access, and close monitoring.
