Responsibilities

This position is accountable for the daily patient care operations of the assigned department, working under the direction of the Nurse Manager on assigned shifts. Responsible for daily patient care assignments, maintaining clinical standards of care, maintaining labor productivity, supervising the patient care environment, and supporting the care team. Supports the activities of the Nurse Manager and maintains positive relationships within and between departments. Directs patient throughput activities in the assigned unit and maintains evidence-based nursing practices to achieve desirable patient outcomes in accordance with the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities
  1. Provides direct supervision of personnel practicing on Nursing Units, makes patient care assignments, evaluates assignments, facilitates patient throughput, and directly observes staff performance during their shift.
  2. Proactively manages resources to support staff and maintain a therapeutic environment for patients.
  3. Monitors staffing productivity and ensures resources align with patient care needs.
  4. Communicates personnel concerns to the Unit Manager.
  5. Uses systematic approaches to problem-solving.
  6. Facilitates patient experience best practices on the unit (e.g., hourly rounding).
  7. Maintains professional standards on the unit and holds staff accountable for behaviors and attitudes.
  8. Maintains confidentiality and assists with audits and data collection as needed.
  9. Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.
  10. Performs direct patient care and manages an assigned group of patients as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
  • Active Registered Nurse Licensure in Kentucky (KY) or eNLC licensure with multistate privileges in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Previous nursing experience in Med/Surg, Telemetry, Cardiac, Emergency, or Critical Care.
