Job description

Relate Search has partnered with an engineering, design, and construction organization seeking a Risk & Contracts Specialist to support its growing legal, contracts, and risk function. This role will partner with legal, project, insurance, and business stakeholders to manage contractual risk, support the insurance program, and strengthen processes across contracts and risk management. The position is highly consultative and requires sound judgment, strong construction-industry experience, and the ability to determine when matters can be handled independently versus escalated to legal counsel. The successful candidate will also help improve structure, procedures, guidelines, and training across the function while operating in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead support for the organization’s insurance program, including renewals, carrier proposals, claims reporting, audits, documentation, and coordination with brokers and insurers.
  • Review contractual insurance requirements and manage Certificates of Insurance across clients, subcontractors, subconsultants, and vendors, resolving compliance issues as needed.
  • Review and negotiate owner, subcontractor, vendor, engineering, procurement, and construction agreements in partnership with legal counsel, with a focus on contractual and insurance-related risk.
  • Partner with project managers and business leaders on contractual obligations, insurance requirements, and risk assessments throughout proposal, pre-award, and project execution phases.
  • Develop and improve training, reference materials, processes, and guidelines for contracts, insurance, and risk management while exercising judgment on matters requiring legal escalation.
Qualifications
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience in contracts, risk management, insurance, or a combination of these areas.
  • Strong construction or A/E/C industry experience is required, with experience supporting insurance and risk on large, complex construction projects highly desirable.
  • Experience with construction-related insurance programs and coverages such as professional liability, Builder's Risk, OCIPs, SDI, general liability, workers' compensation, and related project insurance preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, with strong ability to interpret contract language and identify commercial and insurance-related risk.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, and follow-through skills, with a collaborative and consultative approach, comfort managing multiple priorities, and ability to work effectively with brokers, carriers, attorneys, project managers, and operational leaders.
  • Performance bonus opportunity paid at the end of the year.
  • Profit-sharing and retirement plans.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
  • Paid time off and open vacation policy.
Work Arrangement
  • Hybrid schedule with three onsite days and two remote days each week.
  • Office days: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Remote days: Wednesday and Friday.
  • Role may be based in Duluth, Georgia or Springfield, Massachusetts and is not intended to be fully remote.
  • Candidates should live within a reasonable commuting distance of their selected office.
