Job description

Risk Manager, Insurance & Contract Compliance

Location: Perrysburg, OH

Working arrangement: Full-time, onsite

Our client is one of North America’s largest family-owned infrastructure contractors, delivering complex construction projects across the US and internationally.

They are creating a new Risk Manager position to strengthen how contractual risk, insurance requirements and surety obligations are managed across the business. This is a highly visible, hands-on role for someone who understands the realities of construction and can confidently assess the risks behind major contracts and projects.

You will work closely with Legal, Operational Leadership and senior Project Management teams, providing practical guidance before contracts are signed and throughout the full project lifecycle. You will also manage an International Risk Specialist and help develop more structured processes across the function.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Review and evaluate domestic and international construction contracts, joint venture agreements and customer terms
  • Identify contractual risk exposures, insurance requirements, obligations and opportunities to transfer risk appropriately
  • Lead the insurance and risk aspects of complex contract reviews, highlighting potential advantages, disadvantages and areas requiring further negotiation
  • Work with Corporate Legal, Operational Leadership and Project Management to resolve contractual and insurance-related concerns
  • Coordinate project-specific insurance, including builders risk coverage, joint venture programs and certificates of insurance
  • Review owner-controlled insurance programs, including OCIPs, and identify potential gaps or limitations in coverage
  • Evaluate insurance provided by subcontractors and consultants to ensure contractual requirements are met
  • Review, negotiate and approve project-specific insurance policy wording
  • Support the corporate surety program and coordinate project bond requirements
  • Ensure insurance policies and bonds are tracked throughout construction, any extended reporting period and the applicable completed-operations period
  • Support major projects from bid and contract review through delivery and final closeout
  • Provide guidance and training to operational teams on contractual risk, insurance requirements and compliance
  • Improve the systems and processes used to track contracts, insurance, bonds and project closeout
  • Manage, support and develop an International Risk Specialist, with the potential to help grow the function over time

What we’re looking for

  • Significant risk and insurance experience within the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, insurance requirements and contractual risk transfer
  • Experience personally reviewing and evaluating complex construction contracts
  • Approximately 10 or more years of relevant experience preferred
  • Experience supporting a large contractor, complex construction business or major project portfolio
  • The ability to communicate complex risk and insurance matters clearly to Legal, Operations and Project Management teams
  • Strong judgement, attention to detail and the confidence to challenge contractual terms where necessary
  • Leadership experience or the ability to step successfully into a first formal management position
  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • A valid driver’s licence and acceptable driving record

Additional experience that would be valuable

  • Construction surety and project bonds
  • Builders risk and owner-controlled insurance programs
  • Joint venture agreements
  • International construction projects or multinational insurance programs
  • Reviewing or negotiating insurance policy wording
  • Developing or improving risk and insurance tracking processes
  • Experience with Origami, SharePoint or similar risk-management systems
  • CPCU, ARM, CRIS or a comparable professional designation

Surety experience is highly valuable but is not essential. Candidates with strong construction contract and insurance experience can be supported in developing this area.

Why consider this opportunity?

  • Join a highly established, financially strong infrastructure contractor
  • Take ownership of a newly created and highly visible position
  • Work directly with senior leaders across Risk, Legal, Operations and Project Management
  • Help shape and improve the company’s approach to insurance and contractual risk
  • Lead an existing specialist, with the potential to grow the team further
  • Receive a competitive salary, bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package
  • Join a collaborative, long-term business where contributions are recognised and valued

This is an onsite position based at the Perrysburg office. Regular project travel is not expected, although occasional travel to Wisconsin may be required for training and collaboration.
