Reports To: Director of Risk Management
MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Risk Management Coordinator (RN) to join our Quality & Risk Management team. This role is vital in safeguarding patient safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and minimizing clinical, financial, legal, and operational risks. The ideal candidate is a Registered Nurse with strong analytical skills, regulatory knowledge, and a passion for patient safety and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks to ensure safe and compliant healthcare delivery.
Lead and document thorough investigations of incidents, near misses, and sentinel events.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including HIPAA, CMS, DNV, and other applicable guidelines.
Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to embed risk-aware practices across departments.
Conduct root cause analyses and develop actionable recommendations.
Analyze risk-related data and trends to inform continuous improvement strategies.
Coordinate the management of liability claims and litigation support.
Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response.
Educate staff on risk management practices, incident reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Maintain accurate and confidential risk management documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in Risk Management (CPHRM) or working toward certification.
Experience in a healthcare risk management or quality improvement role.
Knowledge of risk management principles and healthcare regulations.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Experience with incident reporting systems and healthcare data analytics preferred.
Additional Job Description
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, bachelor's degree is preferred. Current South Carolina or compact state nursing licence, and a minimum of one year experience is required.
