Job Description

Reports To: Director of Risk Management

MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Risk Management Coordinator (RN) to join our Quality & Risk Management team. This role is vital in safeguarding patient safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and minimizing clinical, financial, legal, and operational risks. The ideal candidate is a Registered Nurse with strong analytical skills, regulatory knowledge, and a passion for patient safety and quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks to ensure safe and compliant healthcare delivery.

• Lead and document thorough investigations of incidents, near misses, and sentinel events.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including HIPAA, CMS, DNV, and other applicable guidelines.

• Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to embed risk-aware practices across departments.

• Conduct root cause analyses and develop actionable recommendations.

• Analyze risk-related data and trends to inform continuous improvement strategies.

• Coordinate the management of liability claims and litigation support.

• Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response.

• Educate staff on risk management practices, incident reporting, and regulatory compliance.

• Maintain accurate and confidential risk management documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in Risk Management (CPHRM) or working toward certification.

• Experience in a healthcare risk management or quality improvement role.

• Knowledge of risk management principles and healthcare regulations.

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

• Experience with incident reporting systems and healthcare data analytics preferred.

Additional Job Description

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, bachelor's degree is preferred. Current South Carolina or compact state nursing licence, and a minimum of one year experience is required.
