Under the direction of the Director of Risk Management and Patient Safety, the Risk Management Consultant (Risk Manager) leads risk identification and mitigation activities through collaboration with the Patient Safety Officer, quality coordinators, clinicians, administrators, and leadership. The goal is to address opportunities for improvement in the delivery of high-quality care, mitigate risk exposure, and enhance patient safety at Sinai Hospital.
The RMC position supports Sinai Hospital and is primarily remote, with occasional onsite meetings required; candidates must be local.
Essential Functions :
- High Reliability and ERM : Establish consistent processes supporting a proactive approach to risk reduction, patient safety, and high reliability in care delivery. Conduct risk assessments using the domains of Enterprise Risk Management, including clinical risk, human capital, operational risks, hazard risks, technology risks, financial risks, legal/regulatory risks, and strategic risks.
- Risk & Safety Processes : Collaborate on policy formulation and organizational changes to reduce risk and enhance safety. Participate in committees, identify trends in risk data, and share investigative findings and best practices to aid in improvement plans.
- Event Reporting : Monitor event reports daily, investigate all adverse events and near misses, and lead the Adverse Event Response Team (AERT).
- Risk Assessments : Conduct proactive risk assessments and gap analyses in various settings, sharing results and recommendations for improvement.
- Risk Education : Provide education and training on risk management, including lessons learned from safety events, to engage staff in safety initiatives.
- Legal / Insurance / Claims : Work with the Legal Department on potentially compensable events, provide investigative information, and maintain knowledge of insurance and claims programs. Refer legal issues as appropriate.
- Resources & On-Call : Offer guidance to staff and leadership, serve as an on-call resource during non-business hours, and advise on risk mitigation and disclosure steps. Stay updated on healthcare risk management trends and regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements :
- Basic professional knowledge; equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, with a working knowledge of the field. Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
