Qualifications

The Senior Marine Risk Consultant is embedded into AXA XL Risk Consulting but works in close daily interaction with the Ocean and Inland Marine underwriting teams.

The primary scope of work encompasses logistics and storage for various types of cargo, marine contractors’ equipment, and builder’s risk. Depending on the skills of the job holder, it may also include support for other specialty lines, such as fine art and specie, aquaculture, and livestock.

You will be responsible for supporting the underwriting team in any risk control aspects, developing, promoting and proposing risk control and risk consultancy capabilities to the Assureds and Brokers, as well as participating to regional marketing initiatives.

You will be based in one of our offices, either in New York, Exton, PA or Philadelphia, PA; we are excited to have implemented our Smart Working initiative offering a hybrid way of working, combining both remote and office working.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for clients involved in ocean and inland marine activities, including transportation risks, marine contractors' equipment, and builder’s risk, encompassing installation projects, renovations, and rehabilitations.
  • Assess storage exposures and organize surveys related to transport and warehouse risks.
  • Analyze building construction, fire protection features, process operations, and special hazards.
  • Review client operations, policies, and procedures to identify potential risks and develop customized risk management strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with underwriters to ensure a thorough understanding of coverage options, policy terms, and conditions related to marine insurance.
  • Prepare and present detailed risk assessment reports and recommendations to clients.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in marine and inland marine risk management to provide informed guidance.
  • Advise clients on effective risk mitigation techniques and loss prevention strategies tailored to their specific operations.
  • Foster and maintain robust relationships with clients, underwriters, and industry partners to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  • Participate in industry events and networking opportunities to enhance professional knowledge and expand the company’s presence in the marine and construction sectors.
  • Review quotes and renewal offers to provide risk control recommendations related to transport and logistics risks.
  • Attend meetings with brokers and clients.
  • Participate in lectures and workshops on loss prevention.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative, technology-based risk control proposals.
  • Local travel will be required.

You will report to the Regional Engineering Leader.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction, Marine Studies, or a related field.
  • Moderate to extensive experience in Marine and/or Inland Marine Insurance or Risk consulting, or relevant role with specific expertise in transportation, logistics and storage risks, builder’s risk and marine contractors' equipment.
  • Good experience in cargo handling, stowage and securing is an advantage.
  • Understanding of marine and inland marine insurance products.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Client and solution oriented, Analytical skills and innovative thinking.
  • Good communication skills in different cultural environments, Fluent in English. Any other language is an advantage.

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 83,500 - 145,500. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
