Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Substation Assistant Electrical Engineer for our Overland Park, Kansas office. You will work with the Power Delivery Substation Team to support due diligence, design, development, and construction of substations and related systems.

You will collect data, assist with single-line and layout designs, and perform basic engineering tasks under supervision, while adhering to safety and industry standards. This role offers growth with a global engineering leader.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• General understanding of electrical engineering in design for large projects.
• Familiarity with electrical construction laws, codes, and compliance.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Proficiency with technical writing and office software.
• Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, Aspen, CAPE.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze data relating to substation components, equipment specs for procurement, IFR/IRC design and review, and IEEE/NESC/NERC regulations.
• Design single-line and three-line diagrams, general arrangement, substation layouts and grounding, and protection concepts.
• Provide entry-level support on equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit/trenching strategies.
• Verify site characteristics and provide basic engineering design, testing, and construction procedure support.
• Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, and lighting.
• Generate complete documentation using drawings and field logs.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and site procedures; complete assigned training.
• Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and policies.
• Perform additional responsibilities as needed.
