Job summary

SICK AG invites students to join their Software Engineering Internship in Canton, MA for the 2027 summer season. You will contribute to hands-on design and support of SICK products through the full lifecycle, collaborating with a multinational team to enhance production line performance.

The role emphasizes learning through real projects, code development under supervision, and routine testing to ensure reliability and quality.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited university/college program in Electrical, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Strong computer and math skills.
• Experience with C, C++, or Java.
• Some design and development experience with scripting languages such as Lua, Python or JavaScript.
• Familiarity with image processing and/or machine vision algorithms (OpenCV or PCL).
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor IDE).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-directed and able to work without supervision.
• Zero-two years of professional software design experience.
• This position is not eligible for sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Work on a chosen project with the assistance of the manager, mentor, and team.
• Collaborate with the mentor to understand systems, processes, and key information.
• Interface with other departments to gain knowledge of the business and products.
• Provide innovative recommendations to improve.
• Complete a final presentation outlining the project(s) and knowledge gained.
• Design code to meet software requirements with limited supervision.
• Plan, develop and execute tests to verify operation, reliability, and performance.
• Ensure product quality and reliability requirements are incorporated into the design.
• Contribute to cross-functional project teams.
• Follow design control, quality, and regulatory requirements.
