Job summary

HWC Engineering, serving Indiana and the Midwest, invites applications for a Right of Way Engineer to support our Survey team from the Indianapolis office. This role emphasizes a respectful, collaborative culture and opportunities for growth within a progressive engineering firm.

You will prepare ROW plans, analyze parcels, and coordinate with INDOT and stakeholders while applying state standards. A licensed surveyor with 5+ years of ROW experience is preferred, with strong CAD skills and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, surveying, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience with right-of-way engineering, land surveying, or related field.
• Working knowledge of INDOT right-of-way procedures, design standards, and Indiana regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare right-of-way plans, parcel plats, legal descriptions, exhibits, and other documents for land acquisition.
• Calculate and develop right-of-way parcels and easements using survey and design information.
• Perform boundary research and analyze issues related to property and right-of-way.
• Review survey data and right-of-way documents for accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Apply INDOT right-of-way and land acquisition standards to projects.
• Coordinate with project managers, INDOT, local agencies, and stakeholders.
• Communicate technical information clearly while managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Provide technical support to survey technicians, designers, and team members.
• Assist with project scoping, proposals, estimates, and related activities.

Job description

Our team is looking for a qualified, ambitious, and enthusiastic Right of Way Engineer to support our Survey team out of our Indianapolis office. WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Prepare right-of-way plans, parcel plats, legal descriptions, exhibits, and other documents necessary to support land acquisition for transportation and infrastructure projects.
• Calculate and develop right-of-way parcels and easements using survey and design information.
• Perform boundary research and analysis and assist with resolving property and right-of-way issues.
• Review survey data and right-of-way documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable standards.
• Apply INDOT right-of-way, land acquisition, survey, and design standards to projects.
• Coordinate with project managers, survey staff, clients, INDOT and local agencies, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
• Communicate technical information clearly and professionally while managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Provide technical support to survey technicians, designers, and other team members as needed.
• Assist with project scoping, proposals, estimates, and other right-of-way related activities as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Licensed Surveyor

WHAT YOU NEED

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, surveying, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience with right-of-way engineering, land surveying, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of INDOT right-of-way and land acquisition procedures, design standards, and applicable Indiana regulations.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Strong understanding of boundary concepts and survey principles.
• Ability to interpret survey data, property information, plans, plats, and legal descriptions.
• Strong communication, analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently, contribute to a team, and meet project deadlines.
• INDOT prequalification and prior INDOT right-of-way experience preferred.
