Job summary

HWC Engineering, an Indiana-based firm, seeks a Project Surveyor to lead survey efforts from our Indianapolis office. You’ll manage land survey projects including boundary, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and construction staking, while coordinating with clients and internal teams.

The ideal candidate holds Indiana PLS with 1–5 years post-licensure, strong AutoCAD/C3D skills, and a teamwork-driven mindset. Occasional fieldwork and up-to-date software knowledge are required.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Professional Surveyor License in Indiana (or ability to quickly obtain).
• 1 to 5 years’ experience post licensure.
• Knowledge in AutoCAD/C3D (required).
• Knowledge in MicroStation (a plus).
• Microsoft Office knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Manage land survey projects across boundary, ALTA/NSPS surveys, transportation, topo, utility and construction staking.
• Provide direction to survey crews and technicians; review others’ work.
• Take ownership of monthly revenue and performance of assigned projects.
• Prepare proposals, scopes, and field files for projects.

*This position will report to our Indianapolis, IN office.

Our team is looking for a qualified, ambitious, and detail-oriented Project Surveyor to support our Survey team. The ideal candidate will be involved with municipal public works and civil/site construction projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced survey professional that can provide day to day management and supervision of survey projects and be a part of preparing proposals, fee negotiations, and contracts for a growing survey group.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Manage land survey projects in the areas of: boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, transportation/right-of-way, topographic, utility and construction staking
• Communicate with clients and internal groups/employees in a professional manner.
• Give direction to survey crews and technicians.
• Review work of other surveying staff
• Take ownership of monthly revenue and performance of assigned projects
• Prepare proposals, scopes, fees and field files for projects.
• Minimal travel and fieldwork may be necessary occasionally.
• Interact effectively with others including consulting firms partnering with HWC, INDOT staff, local government agency staff and HWC staff.

WHAT YOU NEED

• Must hold a current Professional Surveyor License in Indiana (or ability to quickly obtain) with 1 to 5 years’ experience post licensure.
• Knowledge in current version of AutoCAD/C3D a must
• Knowledge in MicroStation considered a plus.
• Microsoft Office knowledge.
• INDOT prequalification in Right-of-Way Engineering considered a plus.
• Knowledge of construction staking, and calculations associated with staking considered a plus.
• Ability to think critically, manage time and problem solve.
• Strong data analysis and organizational skills.
• Complete competence working well independently and on a team.
• Applicant must possess high ethical standards, have a strong sense of commitment to self-development, teamwork, and a desire to work in a deadline-driven team environment.
