Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. is seeking a Rigging Specialist to assemble and move equipment safely on construction sites. You will select the right rigging gear, load and guide operations, and coordinate with crane operators to meet project deadlines.

The role requires at least 3 years of field experience, physical stamina for lifting, and the ability to work long hours in varied weather. A background check and drug screen may be required at some locations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of field experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively.
• Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
• 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work.
• Must be able to work up to 200 feet.
• Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements.

Responsibilities

• Select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves according to weight and size of load.
• Position material prior to lift and determine weight of object.
• Select proper rigging for the job such as cables, straps or chains and ensure they are inspected and in good condition.
• Attach pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures with bolts and clamps.
• Attach load with grappling devices to crane hook.
• Give directions to crane operator or hoisting engineer to ensure safety of workers and equipment.
• Set up, brace and rig hoisting equipment using hand and power tools.
• Work with erection team to complete the assigned tasks.
• Ability to tie various knots.
• Assemble and disassemble cranes.
• Clean, maintain and inspect all equipment used in Rigging.

Position Description

Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material on construction project in a safe and timely manner with the highest quality possible.

Job Responsibilities

• Select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
• Position material prior to lift and determine weight of object.
• Select proper rigging for the job such as cables, straps or chains and ensures they have been inspected and are in good working condition.
• Attach pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceiling, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.
• Attach load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hook.
• Give directions to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material hoisting equipment, using hand signals, loud speaker, two-way radio or telephone.
• Set up, brace and rig hoisting equipment using hand tools and power tools.
• Work with erection team to complete the assigned tasks.
• Ability to tie various knots.
• Assemble and disassemble cranes.
• Clean, maintain tools and inspect all equipment used in Rigging.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
• Ability to interpret an Engineer’s rigging plan
• Other duties as assigned.
