Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of elementary literacy curriculum, assessment, and instructional strategies.
  • Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Reading Specialist certification or Literacy Coach endorsement.
  • Experience providing instructional coaching or mentoring teachers.
  • Experience facilitating professional learning for adult learners.

  • Direct Instruction: Deliver explicit, systematic literacy instruction to individuals and small groups using Science of Reading methodologies.
  • Data & Assessment: Administer, analyze, and interpret diagnostic, screening, and progress-monitoring assessments to identify student needs and measure growth.
  • Instructional Planning: Maintain data-driven records to modify instructional plans every 2-3 weeks based on student progress.
  • Collaboration: Partner with general education teachers to align intervention strategies with core classroom instruction.
  • Communication: Provide regular updates with parents/guardians regarding goals, progress, and home strategies.
  • Professional Development: Participate in MTSS/Data Team meetings and ongoing literacy professional development.

Position Title: Literacy Interventionist


Location: Ridge Road Elementary School


Reports To: Building Principal


Work Year: 2026-2027


Salary: Per NHEA Union Contract


Position Overview: North Haven Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled, dedicated, and data-driven Literacy Interventionist for the upcoming school year. The Literacy Interventionist is a specialized educator responsible for providing targeted, evidence-based reading and writing instruction to students who are performing below grade-level benchmarks. The interventionist will design and deliver intensive Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction, track progress, and collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure student success.


Education: Candidates must possess a current Connecticut State Department of Education certificate featuring a Reading Specialist certification or Literacy Coach endorsement.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Professional Development: Participate in school-based MTSS / Data Team meetings and attend ongoing professional development in literacy instruction.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Education

  • Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instructional decisions.

  • Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.

  • Reading Specialist certification or Literacy Coach endorsement.

  • Experience providing instructional coaching or mentoring teachers.

  • Experience facilitating professional learning for adult learners.


Physical Demands & Work Environment


  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak, hear, stand, and type extensively. Occasional lifting or moving of files or presentation materials up to 10 lbs. may be needed.

  • Work Conditions: Standard office setting within an educational central business environment. Requires visual concentration on detail and the capability to adjust to frequent task interruptions.
