Job Summary: The Literacy Support Paraprofessional provides targeted, evidence-based reading interventions to students in grades K-3 to help them reach grade-level proficiency. This role involves implementing specific instructional strategies defined in students' individualized reading plans and participating in ongoing training to ensure alignment with the Science of Reading. Additionally, this position will help with all individual reading plans at their school by supporting the teacher in keeping the plans up to date with current data, intervention adjustments, and helping maintain and ensure compliance.


Essential Functions:



  • Lead evidence-based reading interventions aligned with the Science of Reading for students with Individualized Reading Plans.

  • Work closely with classroom teachers and the literacy coach to ensure interventions are delivered with fidelity and aligned with students’ Individualized Reading Plans.

  • Assist with literacy building activities and strategies.

  • Work in conjunction with administrators to develop aide schedules.

  • Complete and participate in ongoing Science of Reading training to ensure current best practice is being strictly followed.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to review student successes and challenges, problem-solve, and identify appropriate instructional supports.

  • Coordinate and communicate instructional plans, group movements, and schedules related to interventions.

  • Monitor Individualized Reading Plans schoolwide and communicate regularly with classroom teachers regarding student progress, required updates, and documentation needs.

  • Support classroom teachers in maintaining Individualized Reading Plans, including data collection, progress monitoring, intervention documentation, and necessary adjustments.


Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position



  • Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.


Physical Requirements (including, but not limited to, the following):


Must be able to:



  • Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

  • Move about inside and outside the school to access files, students and machinery.

  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, computer printer.

  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder/stairs to access high objects or different levels of the building.

  • Constantly positions self to maintain files, students, or objects.

  • Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • Have the ability to observe details at close and far range.

  • Frequently move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the classroom for various needs.

  • May work in outdoor weather conditions.

  • Aides in Special Education and P.E. may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements



  • Workplace Setting: Primarily indoors in classroom environments, resource rooms, or dedicated intervention spaces. Instruction often takes place in small pull-out spaces or as \"push-in\" support alongside the primary classroom teacher.

  • Physical Proximity & Noise: Aides work in close physical proximity with young children (often working at low tables or sitting on the floor). Elementary environments can feature high noise levels and constant sensory activity.

  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent bending, sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day.


Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Previous related experience preferred
