As a Ride Smart Ohio driver, you will complete pre-trip checks, follow state and program procedures, and communicate professionally with schools, families, and Ride Smart Ohio staff to ensure a dependable and supportive transportation experience.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• At least four years of driving experience.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Ability to successfully pass an annual physical examination.
• Satisfactory criminal background report.
• Proof of current vehicle insurance.
• Acceptable driving record and Ride Smart Ohio checks.
• Ability to complete 4-hour van driver training per requirements.
• Ability to complete 2 hours of annual in-service training.
• Strong commitment to safe and defensive driving practices.
• Dependability, patience, and genuine interest in supporting students.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to comply with Ride Smart Ohio vehicle safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school, programs, and other destinations.
• Provide a safe, reliable, and welcoming transportation experience for students.
• Follow all laws, regulations, and Ride Smart Ohio procedures.
• Complete a daily pre-trip inspection of the vehicle.
• Maintain supervision and behavior expectations while students are in the vehicle.
• Report accidents, incidents, or safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report maintenance needs.
• Complete required transportation documentation on time.
• Complete required driver training and annual in-service training.
• Maintain current licensing, medical, background checks, and qualifications.
• Communicate professionally with students, families, staff, and Ride Smart Ohio personnel.
• Follow policy on student transportation and confidentiality.
• Provide dependable transportation with patience and professionalism.
