Job summary

Dayton Public Schools is seeking a motivated individual to operate a passenger school bus on established routes under supervision. Responsibilities include pre-trip and post-trip inspections, safeguarding students, and coordinating with dispatch to ensure on-time arrivals. Candidates must be a U.S.

citizen or have the right to work, be 21+, and obtain Ohio Class B CDL with School Bus endorsement. Prior driving experience is helpful; willingness to complete required training and pass background

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
• Must be 21 years of age
• Must obtain a valid Ohio Class B or higher Commercial Driver License with School Bus and Passenger endorsements, and no air brake restriction

Responsibilities

• Drive a school bus on an established route per Ohio DOE and District requirements.
• Perform pre-trip inspections and document results.
• Perform post-trip inspections after each trip.
• Report mechanical defects to Fleet Services personnel in writing.
• Transport students, parents, and district staff for field trips and activities.
• Assist pupils with special needs: boarding/exiting, seating, restraints, wheelchair lift, securing equipment.
• Communicate with dispatchers via two-way radio in a professional manner.
• Supervise pupil behavior and provide directions for safety.
• Conduct emergency evacuations and participate in trainings.
