Job summary

United Ground Express, Inc. is seeking a ramp services associate at Richmond International Airport. You will lift baggage and cargo up to 70 lbs, operate ground support equipment, and help prepare aircraft for departures.

The role requires flexibility for day/night shifts, weekends, and holidays, plus the ability to pass background checks and obtain airport credentials. You will work outdoors in all weather conditions and read load sheets and labels to ensure correct loading.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid state driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Must acquire credentials including fingerprint clearance and airport badge.
• Able to work day/night shifts, weekends and holidays; overtime may be required.
• Able to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Able to read, write and understand English.
• Able to operate computers and mobile devices.

Responsibilities

• Lift baggage, boxes, or cargo up to 70 lbs throughout shift.
• Push/pull loaded and empty carts during loading/unloading operations.
• Drive ground equipment (tugs, belt loaders, bag carts) as needed.
• Clean aircraft interior and service lavatories.
• Read and interpret load sheets, baggage tags, and cargo labels.
• Prepare and secure aircraft for next flight.
• Communicate with coworkers and flight crew via radio devices.
• Comply with United, TSA, DOT and FAA regulations.

Job description

• Lift baggage, boxes, or cargo weighing up to 70 lbs. throughout your shift


• May require lifting over 100 items for a single aircraft


• Push/pull loaded and empty carts during loading/unloading operations


• Ascend/descend jet-way stairs while carrying baggage


• Bend/stoop and crawl to move and stack/unstack cargo in aircraft


• Drive ground equipment such as tugs to help the plane push in/out of the gate, belt loaders to help load baggage, and bag carts to deliver baggage


• Cleaning of the interior of the aircraft, clean and service aircraft lavatories


• Read and interpret aircraft load sheets, checked baggage tags, and cargo labels


• Prepping and securing the aircraft for the next flight


• Use radio electronic devices to communicate with co-workers or flight crew


• Ensure compliance with United, TSA, DOT and FAA regulations and policies


• Work outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions

Qualifications and minimum requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old


• Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license with acceptable driving record


• Must acquire and maintain credentials vital for the position including fingerprint clearance, local airport badging, and background check


• Successful completion of pre-employment process which may include but not be limited to; drug screen, hearing and vision check


• Available to work any shift; day or night, weekends, and holidays; mandatory overtime may be required based on operational need


• Comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, and new technologies


• Must be able to read, write, fluently speak, and understand the English language


• Must be able to carry, bend, lift and turn with bags and other items weighing up to 70 lbs.


• Able to perform a variety of physical activities including pushing, bending, stooping, climbing, and working in tight spaces


• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
