Reports To: Vice President of Finance & Accounting
About Three Strands
Our client, Three Strands, is the shared services organization supporting a growing portfolio of wealth management and financial services companies that include 49 Financial, The Collective, and Alongside. By centralizing key business functions, Three Strands provides the operational infrastructure, consistency, and expertise that enables each business to focus on serving its clients and growing its organization.
As the portfolio continues to grow, Three Strands is building scalable processes and infrastructure to support its businesses — creating an opportunity for an experienced RIA billing professional to play a key role in that growth.
About the Opportunity
Three Strands is seeking a Senior RIA Billing Specialist to take ownership of the end-to-end advisory fee billing process across its RIA businesses, including Alongside and 49 Financial.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands the complexities of RIA billing and can serve as the internal subject matter expert. You’ll oversee quarterly billing cycles, fee schedules, reconciliations, advisor compensation calculations, and related reporting while partnering closely with Accounting on month-end close and revenue recognition.
The ideal candidate has strong, hands-on RIA billing experience and is comfortable not only running an established billing process, but also identifying opportunities to improve, build, and scale processes as the organization grows.
What You'll Do:
RIA Advisory Fee Billing
- Own the end-to-end advisory fee billing process for Alongside and 49 Financial.
- Manage quarterly billing cycles from preparation through completion, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Build, maintain, and audit advisory fee schedules, including tiered, blended, household, advance, and arrears billing structures.
- Reconcile billing activity and research and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure billing processes and controls remain accurate, consistent, and scalable.
- Help build and improve billing processes as the organization continues to grow.
- Calculate and prepare advisor compensation statements related to advisory fee revenue.
- Research and resolve advisor questions related to billing and compensation.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure advisor compensation is processed accurately and on schedule.
- Partner closely with Accounting to support monthly close and revenue recognition.
- Prepare billing reports, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain accurate billing records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with research and analysis related to billing and revenue activity.
Process Improvement & Operations
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert for RIA billing systems, processes, and methodologies.
- Identify opportunities to improve billing workflows, controls, and operational efficiency.
- Develop and document billing procedures and processes that can scale with the business.
- Participate in system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and other special projects.
Advisor & Business Support
- Build strong relationships with advisors and internal stakeholders by providing responsive, high-quality support.
- Serve as a trusted resource for billing‑related questions and issues.
- Partner with Operations, Accounting, and leadership to resolve issues and support business initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of hands-on RIA advisory fee billing experience, ideally within an independent RIA or wealth management environment.
- Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end RIA billing, including fee schedules, billing cycles, reconciliations, and advisor compensation.
- Strong understanding of RIA billing methodologies, including tiered, blended, household, advance, and arrears billing.
- Experience building, improving, or scaling billing processes is highly preferred.
- Experience with Orion and/or Black Diamond strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting accounting functions such as reconciliations and revenue recognition.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively support advisors and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and accountability.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
Why This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a growing organization where your expertise will have a direct impact. Rather than simply processing billing within an established structure, you’ll have the opportunity to own the RIA billing function, improve processes, and help build the infrastructure needed to support continued growth.
If you have deep RIA billing expertise and enjoy being the person others turn to when it comes to billing, reconciliations, advisor compensation, and process improvement, we'd love to hear from you.
