Tufts Medical Center seeks a full-time Academic Rheumatologist to serve as the next Chief of the Division of Rheumatology. The Division Chief will provide academic and innovative leadership, champion clinical excellence, expand clinical stature, strengthen research efforts, and contribute to the department's national prominence through scholarly work and service.
About the Division of Rheumatology:
- The division was established over 50 years ago and is renowned for research, education, and clinical care.
- Research achievements include the discovery of interleukin-1 and pioneering immunosuppression, with contributions from Drs. Sheldon Wolff and Charles Dinarello.
- The division led early clinical trials of rituximab and belimumab for Lupus treatment.
- Major clinical programs include The Center for Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Program, Pediatric/Adult Transitional Clinic, and Lyme Disease Specialty Clinic.
- Research includes industry trials, complementary health, and patient-reported outcomes in SLE, with collaborations across oncology, pulmonary medicine, nephrology, dermatology, and support from Tufts CTSI.

Department Leadership:- William Harvey, MD, MSc, FACR, is the Interim Chief of Rheumatology and serves as Chief Medical Informatics Officer and Co-Director of Tufts CTSI Informatics.
- Dr. Karen Freund, Chair of the Department of Medicine and Sheldon M. Wolff Professor at TUSM, oversees the division along with other department leaders.
How you’ll transform patient care:- Recruit, mentor, and oversee a team of Rheumatology specialists.
- Collaborate to develop new clinical care initiatives.
- Serve as an attending physician supporting fellows and residents.
- Supervise advanced care practitioners, fellows, residents, and students.
- Participate in quality improvement programs.

- Develop a vision for interdisciplinary research within the division.
- Manage the Rheumatology Fellowship Program.
