Job summary

Mass General Brigham's Rheumatology team in Newton, MA is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to support patients through specialty care visits, assist with clinical workflows, and uphold a patient-centered approach in a busy outpatient setting.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vital signs, assisting with procedures (including phlebotomy and immunizations when qualified), managing EHR documentation in Epic, and coordinating with providers to ensure smooth patient flow.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
• 1–2 years of direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field experience.
• Basic Life Support certification preferred.
• National Certified Medical Assistant credential preferred.
• Experience using electronic health record systems, including Epic, strongly preferred.
• Ability to take vital signs, obtain manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples or other specimens.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, accuracy, and time management skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a busy clinical environment while maintaining a high level of patient service.
• Commitment to complying with all privacy, confidentiality, and patient safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Room patients and document vital signs, weight, height, and other clinical information.
• Prepare examination rooms and equipment for providers and maintain efficient patient flow.
• Partner with providers during patient visits, including assisting with rheumatology-related workflows.
• Support prescription refill workflows, patient calls, messages, and follow-up needs in the EHR.
• Collect blood, tissue, or other specimens and perform phlebotomy if certified.
• Explain treatment procedures and medications to patients and reinforce education materials.
• Administer immunizations when applicable and certified under supervision.
• Maintain inventory of immunizations and supplies, monitoring expiration dates.
• Perform occasional EKGs and other clinical tasks as needed.
• Support departmental quality initiatives and patient safety standards.
• Assist with general office support and coordinate with other departments.
• Serve as a positive, professional liaison for patients and care teams.
