Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Rheumatology to deliver comprehensive care to patients with musculoskeletal and autoimmune diseases in an outpatient setting. You will assess, diagnose and manage conditions in collaboration with rheumatologists and the healthcare team.

The role includes prescribing DMARDs/biologics, performing joint injections and ultrasound, and educating patients on treatment options and self-management.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited NP/PA program by start date
• Current, unrestricted NP/PA licensure in state within 90 days of start date
• Board certification by a recognized national body within 90 days of start date
• Ability to manage complex patients with autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient evaluations including history-taking, exams and tests
• Diagnose and manage rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout and spondyloarthropathies
• Review and interpret labs, imaging and other tests
• Develop and manage individualized treatment plans with rheumatologists and team
• Prescribe DMARDs, biologics and corticosteroids per guidelines
• Monitor treatment effectiveness and adjust plans as needed
• Perform joint injections, aspirations and musculoskeletal ultrasound
• Coordinate advanced imaging or referrals for procedures
• Educate patients on diagnosis, options, lifestyle and self-management
• Oversee chronic disease follow-up and preventive care
• Collaborate with rheumatologists, nurses, PAs and therapists
• Coordinate care transitions for hospitalizations or urgent interventions
• Document encounters accurately in the EHR and update plans
• Adhere to guidelines, participate in quality improvement initiatives
• Stay current with advances and attend CME activities
• Mentor and educate less experienced staff
