Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Teach two sections of Ancient Literature and three sections of Introduction to Rhetoric (M–Th).
  • Serve as Writing Center Facilitator two afternoons per week.
  • Create a joyful, grace-filled classroom environment fostering student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans for on-campus and home days.
  • Communicate consistently, truthfully, and graciously with students and parents.
  • Engage students in age-appropriate classical instruction and set measurable mastery objectives.
  • Assess students and reflect results in grade and conduct reports.
  • Maintain an orderly classroom and manage curricula and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Head of Rhetoric, including lunch supervision and chaperoning events.

SY-2026-2027: Rhetoric School Humanities & Classical Studies Teacher

Austin Classical School is a classical, Christian, collaborative school in Austin, Texas, serving PreKindergarten through 12th grade. Austin Classical School exists to glorify Jesus Christ by co‑laboring with families to cultivate wise, virtuous, and humble students through an excellent classical, Christian education.

In our collaborative model, Grammar School students (PreK-4th) are on campus two days per week (M/W), School of Logic students (5th‑8th) are on campus three days per week (M/W/Th), and School of Rhetoric students (9th‑12th) are on campus four days per week (M‑Th). On the remaining weekdays, students are at home completing assigned work independently or under the guidance of their co‑teaching parents.

We are currently seeking a full‑time Rhetoric Humanities & Classical Studies Teacher.

Responsibilities
  • Classroom teacher: (M‑Th) for two sections of Ancient Literature and three sections of Introduction to Rhetoric; Writing Center Facilitator: (Two Afternoons per Week TBD)
  • In executing these responsibilities, teachers will
    • Create a joyful, grace‑filled classroom environment where students enjoy learning together
    • Develop lesson plans for both on‑campus and home days
    • Communicate consistently, truthfully, and graciously with students and parents
    • Engage students in age‑appropriate classical instruction
    • Set measurable objectives for students to move towards mastery
    • Assess students formally and informally and reflect results in their grade and conduct reports
    • Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom, taking care of curricula and equipment belonging to ACS and encouraging students to uphold the school‑wide expectations regarding classroom behavior
    • Perform other duties as directed by the Head of Rhetoric including monitoring students at lunch and chaperoning student events
On‑Campus Time Requirements
  • Summer faculty mandatory training days will be held: TBD.
  • On‑campus days for the School of Rhetoric are Monday‑Thursday throughout the school year (TBD). Faculty who teach first period classes must be on campus by 7:40a; otherwise, teachers are required to be on campus at least thirty minutes prior to their first class of the day.
  • Monthly faculty meetings are held on one Friday of each month from 9a‑1p.
  • There is a student retreat and an evening open house for parents soon after the start of the school year.

Reports to: Greg Jeffers, Head of Rhetoric

Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Teachers are paid twice a month from August through May.
