The RFP Training Advisor within the U.S. Employer Project Management Team plays a vital role in fostering growth and developing knowledge across all RFP-focused roles, including Presale and RFP Q&A teams. This individual demonstrates extensive knowledge of Cigna’s business, segments, selling strategies, and proposal processes, serving as a coach and subject matter expert. They facilitate advanced-level trainings in partnership with other experts at all levels to achieve deliverables.
The RFP Training Advisor is responsible for educating and mentoring new and experienced RFP staff. They work closely with peers and management to drive change and manage process improvement projects. The role involves planning and delivering ongoing trainings on new Cigna products, processes, and strategies, as well as addressing widespread knowledge gaps identified through trends by management.
Responsibilities of the RFP Training Advisor
Educating and Mentoring RFP Staff
- Develop and facilitate training programs for new hires and existing staff across all roles within US Commercial RFP Strategy & Operations. Enhance critical thinking, writing, and proposal project management skills for managing complex proposals.
- Create and update training materials reflecting current products, processes, and segment-specific information, incorporating feedback for continuous improvement.
- Manage new hire performance during training to ensure understanding of learning goals, providing regular feedback and communication with management.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Cigna products and services, tailoring training curricula to engagement and understanding levels.
- Provide hands-on guidance and coaching to develop new hires to independently manage proposal processes.
- Offer direct mentorship through live case work, providing positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to ensure milestone achievement.
- Maintain a feedback loop with trainers and management, communicating learning status, concerns, and opportunities.
- Review case work for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to SOPs before release to customers.
- Use trend data to suggest improvements through coaching and mentoring.
- Support decision-making and results through effective coaching on technical workflows, processes, and tools.
- Participate in operational reviews and provide guidance on technical or procedural issues during live case mentoring.
- Transition new hires into independent roles efficiently within their teams.
Leading Improvements & Driving Change
- Seek to improve training efficiency and maximize resource value to enhance results.
- Collaborate with management to address training needs based on gaps or trends from frontline proposals.
- Support and reinforce workflows, processes, and tools for complex proposals and new products.
- Contribute to training initiatives and projects across RFP Strategy & Operations.
- Update training curricula to incorporate product enhancements and process improvements.
- Maintain proficiency in various RFP roles to support the team, including leading live RFP work when necessary.
- Lead projects aligned with organizational goals, ensuring timely delivery of outcomes.
- Recommend solutions to process issues and participate in testing, tracking, and implementation.
- Focus on customer-centric proposal quality and sales techniques to improve outcomes.
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.

For remote work, internet must be via cable broadband or fiber with minimum speeds of 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload.
The annual salary range is estimated at $82,900 - $138,100, depending on experience and location. The role may also include participation in an annual bonus plan.
