Job summary

Actalent, Inc. in Detroit is seeking a Structural CAD/BIM Designer to develop 3D models and BIM deliverables for water and wastewater facilities, working with senior engineers in a hybrid in-office/remote setting.

You will produce detailed Rev it and AutoCAD drawings, coordinate with disciplinary teams, and help create contract documents while applying BIM standards and drafting best practices.

Qualifications

Job description

This hybrid Structural CAD/BIM Designer role based in the Detroit office focuses on developing structural Revit models, BIM deliverables, and contract documents for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and designers, you will create detailed 3D structural models, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and assist in producing high-quality construction drawings. This position is ideal for a designer with 2–6 years of Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD experience who is eager to grow their structural design and detailing expertise in a consulting environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed structural 3D models using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD for water and wastewater facilities.
• Support the creation of BIM deliverables and contract documents, including plans, sections, details, and schedules for structural components.
• Produce accurate structural drawings and construction documents that align with project specifications and drafting standards.
• Coordinate structural models and drawings with architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines to ensure design consistency and clash avoidance.
• Apply knowledge of structural steel and reinforced concrete systems in the development of models and construction details.
• Collaborate closely with senior engineers and designers, incorporating their guidance and feedback into project deliverables.
• Use tools such as Bluebeam to review, mark up, and refine drawings and documents during design and quality control processes.
• Assist in implementing and following BIM standards and drafting best practices across project teams.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary project coordination meetings and communicate effectively with team members to resolve design issues.
• Support large-scale municipal infrastructure projects by preparing structural documentation that meets client and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in a hybrid collaborative workflow, balancing in-office and remote work while maintaining clear communication and responsiveness.
• 2 years of experience using Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD in a consulting engineering, architectural, structural, or construction environment.
• Proficiency in structural design and structural drafting, with the ability to produce detailed contract drawings and construction documents.
• Experience developing structural models and drawings for water and wastewater facilities or similar infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of structural steel and reinforced concrete systems and how they are represented in models and drawings.
• Experience coordinating models and drawings with architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines.
• Familiarity with BIM standards and drafting best practices in a professional design environment.
• Competence in 3D modeling using Autodesk Revit and related tools.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated teamwork skills and the ability to work productively under the guidance of senior engineers and designers.
• Ability to work successfully in hybrid collaborative environment, balancing in-office and remote responsibilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Design, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred.
• Exposure to Civil 3D for civil-related modeling and coordination is a plus.
• Experience using Navisworks for model coordination and review is beneficial.
• Experience with Bluebeam for drawing review, markup, and collaboration is advantageous.
• Strong interest in developing advanced structural design and detailing skills within a consulting engineering environment.
• Ability to adapt to evolving BIM workflows and tools while maintaining high-quality deliverables.

Job Type & Location

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $95000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
