Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Revenue in Baton Rouge seeks a Revenue Tax Auditor to conduct in-state and out-of-state field audits of complex businesses to ensure compliance with Louisiana tax laws and maximize revenue collection.

The role involves coordinating audits across state lines and handling multiple tax types, including Corporation Income, Franchise, Personal Income, Sales/Use, and others. Travel to metropolitan areas may be required; CPA or Louisiana license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in tax accounting or tax auditing.
• Six years of full-time experience in any field with 24 sem hours in accounting.
• Bachelor's degree with 24 sem hours in accounting.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics.
• Advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; or a JD.
• CPA license or Louisiana license to practice law.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-state and out-of-state field audits of complex businesses to ensure compliance with Louisiana tax laws and policies.
• Coordinate tax audits within Louisiana and other locations in the United States.
• Work with various tax types including Corporation Income, Franchise, Personal Income, Sales/Use, Severance, International Fuel Tax Agreement, Tobacco, Motor Fuel, Natural Gas Franchise, and others.
• Examine financial statements, accounting records, tax reports, and operational processes of large, complex corporations to determine correct Louisiana tax liability.
• Travel to out-of-state metropolitan areas to audit taxpayer financials and determine tax liability.
