The South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) is hiring a Revenue Officer for Beaufort, SC. The role focuses on collecting debts due to the state and enforcing tax laws with professionalism and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Collect debts due to the state and enforce tax laws professionally.
• Prioritize accounts in collection status using established criteria.
• Prepare and submit required reports with guidance.
• Assist with taxpayer services: MyDORWAY portal, business tax applications, basic returns, and adjusting assessments/liens.
• Assist in inspections of Sales, COD, and Admissions licenses.
• Assist with writing violations to ensure compliance and develop/update procedures

What You Will Do

As a Revenue Officer, you will collect debts due the state and enforce tax laws in a professional manner.

Primary Job Duties Include

• Collecting/resolving debt and enforcing tax laws in routine cases through research and taxpayer contact/follow-up, with a focus on the security of taxpayer data
• Assisting in prioritizing accounts in collection status by managing assigned case load and determining urgency using established selection criteria
• Preparing/submitting required reports, with guidance
• Assisting in providing taxpayer assistance to include:
  • Providing basic assistance and referring taxpayers to use our free online tax portal (MyDORWAY)
  • Processing Business Tax Applications
  • Filing basic returns (current and delinquent)
  • Adjusting/issuing assessments and liens
• Assisting in performing inspections of Sales, Coin Operated Device (COD), and Admissions licenses
• Assisting with writing violations to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations
• Developing, updating, and reviewing section procedures

Minimum and Additional Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a related field OR
• An associate's degree in a business-related field and relevant work experience OR
• Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR)

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for field work. (Mileage reimbursement provided)

Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning. College transcript required for consideration, where appropriate. Examples of common business or related degrees include accounting, advertising, criminal justice, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, health care management, hospitality management, human resources, information technology management, marketing, organizational leadership, public relations, taxation, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field
• Strong organizational and web-based computer skills
• Customer Service experience
• Maintain consistent work performance under pressure
• Accounting experience
