Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking an Interim Senior Revenue & Commissions Accountant to support its growing accounting team in a hybrid role in San Francisco, CA. This 3-month assignment focuses on revenue recognition and commissions, with three in-office days per week.

The successful candidate will handle schedules, reconciliations, and close processes, collaborate with Finance, and assist with audits while maintaining documentation and process improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in tech/high-growth environments.
• Hands-on experience with revenue recognition and/or commissions accounting (ASC 606).
• Ability to build revenue and deferred commissions schedules and workpapers.
• Strong month-end close experience and audit-ready documentation.
• Advanced Excel and data-management skills across contracts and billing data.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain commissions accounting schedules with capitalization, amortization, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Support revenue recognition activities including revenue schedules and deferred revenue reconciliations.
• Review contracts to identify discrepancies between terms, billing, commissions, and records.
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, variance analyses, and close workpapers.
• Maintain assigned schedules, ensuring deliverables meet close deadlines.
• Support audits with schedules, contract support, reconciliations, and documentation.
• Investigate discrepancies and collaborate with Finance to resolve transactions.
• Document processes and develop procedures to improve consistency and efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows and controls; utilize financial systems and spreadsheets to reconcile data.

Interim Senior Revenue & Commissions Accountant

Our client, a high-growth technology company, is seeking an Interim Senior Revenue & Commissions Accountant to support its expanding accounting organization.

This role is hybrid, with in-office expectations of three days per week in San Francisco, CA. This role is expected to last 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain commissions accounting schedules, including capitalization, amortization, accruals, payroll tie-outs, and related reconciliations
• Support revenue recognition activities, including revenue schedules, deferred revenue reconciliations, and analysis of customer arrangements
• Review executed contracts and related data to identify discrepancies between contractual terms, billing activity, commissions, and accounting records
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting workpapers as part of the monthly close
• Independently maintain assigned accounting schedules and ensure deliverables are complete, well-supported, and submitted within close deadlines
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, contract support, reconciliations, and audit-ready documentation
• Investigate accounting discrepancies and partner with Finance stakeholders to resolve unusual or non-standard transactions
• Document accounting processes and develop procedures that improve consistency, accuracy, and continuity
• Identify opportunities to improve manual workflows, reconciliations, controls, and accounting efficiency
• Utilize financial systems and advanced spreadsheet tools to organize, validate, and reconcile data across multiple sources

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within technology, software, or another high-growth environment
• Direct hands-on experience with revenue recognition and/or commissions accounting, including ASC 606 or ASC 340-40
• Demonstrated ability to independently build and maintain revenue schedules, deferred commission schedules, reconciliations, and related accounting workpapers
• Strong month-end close experience, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting support, and audit-ready documentation
• Advanced Excel and data-management skills with the ability to work across contracts, billing information, payroll data, and other complex source files
