Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, OR
  • One year of full-time experience in tax-related work with the Tennessee Department of Revenue, which can substitute for education.

Additional requirements include a valid driver's license, personal vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities
  • Learn to identify and execute steps to collect delinquent revenue, including reviewing and negotiating with taxpayers.
  • Research and evaluate taxpayer assets to support collection efforts and promote compliance.
  • Communicate confidentially with financial institutions, attorneys, law enforcement, and other divisions.
  • Interpret and explain tax laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Manage case assignments, document case notes, and prioritize tasks.
  • Utilize collection tools such as liens, garnishments, and assessments, and recommend fieldwork when necessary.
Additional Information

This entry-level position involves learning tax collection and enforcement procedures. Successful completion of a two-year training period leads to promotion to the Revenue Collection Officer Intermediate class. Performance during training affects employment status.
