Job summary

Southern Company Gas in Naperville, IL is seeking a Staff Accountant II in Revenue Accounting to prepare, analyze, and reconcile billed and unbilled revenue transactions. You will support the month-end close, perform reconciliations, and assist with regulatory reporting.

You will collaborate with Billing, Credit, IT, and Regulatory teams to investigate variances, drive process improvements, and support automation initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 2–4 years of accounting experience
• Experience with month-end close
• Experience with journal entries and reconciliations
• Experience with ERP (Oracle)
• Experience with data analysis in Excel

Responsibilities

• Analyze daily transactions from the billing system to ensure data integrity
• Review customer refund transactions for reasonableness
• Prepare journal entries as required for month end close
• Perform controls to ensure revenue recognized is complete
• Process unclaimed property transactions and escheatment cycles
• Prepare tax payment requests and required returns monthly
• Work with Billing, Credit, and IT to research issues
• Provide information to internal and external auditors as required
• Prepare standard reports for financial and regulatory reporting
• Create queries for ad hoc data requests
• Perform monthly account reconciliations and resolve issues
• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve reporting efficiency
• Participate in system enhancements and testing
• Develop and maintain recurring reports and dashboards
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing and revenue issues
• Support regulatory filings and information requests
• Maintain process documentation and cross-training
