Job summary

Skillsoft is seeking a detail-oriented Revenue and Royalty Accountant to support revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP and ASC 606, including royalty and reseller partner activities.

You will help interpret contracts, prepare revenue schedules for SaaS subscriptions and services, and partner cross-functionally to drive efficiency and control. You will assist month-end close, monitor royalty reporting, support audits, and contribute to SOX controls while maintaining accurate data in revenue systems

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of accounting experience, with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606.
• Strong Excel skills (PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP).
• Ability to review and interpret contracts, pricing terms, and financial data.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to learn new accounting systems and processes quickly.

REVENUE ACCOUNTANT

Skillsoft is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Revenue and Royalty Accountant to join our Revenue Accounting team. In this role, you will support the accurate recognition and reporting of revenue in accordance with U.S. GAAP and ASC 606, while also supporting accounting activities related to third-party royalty and reseller partners. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with financial data, interpreting contracts, proactively identify and implement process improvements, and partnering cross-functionally to drive efficiencies and strengthen controls. You will gain exposure to SaaS revenue recognition, deferred revenue, royalty accounting, month-end close, and revenue systems in a dynamic technology environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support revenue recognition activities in accordance with ASC 606 and Skillsoft's accounting policies.
• Review customer contracts, sales orders, amendments, and other agreements to identify key revenue accounting considerations.
• Prepare and maintain revenue schedules for SaaS subscriptions, professional services, and other revenue streams.
• Support monthly revenue roll-forwards and investigate variances between subledger, billing, and general ledger activity.
• Manage and process royalty and reseller partner reports and payments in accordance with contractual terms.
• Calculate royalty revenue, minimum fees, and other partner-related accounting amounts, as applicable.
• Monitor royalty and reseller reporting requirements and follow up with internal and external partners for missing or incomplete information.
• Maintain accurate documentation supporting revenue recognition and royalty accounting conclusions.
• Partner with Sales Operations, Order Management, Legal, Accounts Receivable, Partner Management, and other teams to resolve contract and accounting discrepancies.
• Assist with external and internal audit requests, including providing supporting schedules and documentation.
• Support SOX controls related to revenue and royalty accounting and ensure assigned controls are completed accurately and timely.
• Maintain accurate data and reporting within revenue, billing, and ERP systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve revenue and royalty accounting processes, reporting, and controls.
• Support special projects and system initiatives related to revenue recognition, royalty accounting, and process automation.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• 2-4 years of accounting experience, which can include relevant internship or co-op experience with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles.
• Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and common financial formulas.
• Ability to review and interpret contracts, pricing terms, and financial data.
• Robust analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet month-end deadlines.
• Polished written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate accounting requirements to non-accounting stakeholders.
• Comfortable working with large data sets and identifying trends, variances, and discrepancies.
• Ability to learn new accounting systems, processes, and technology quickly.
• Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with:
• ASC 606 or revenue recognition.
• Working in a SaaS, software, subscription, or technology company.
• Royalty accounting, reseller accounting, licensing agreements, or partner reporting.
• NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or another ERP system.
• Revenue recognition or billing systems.
• Familiarity with deferred revenue and revenue reconciliation processes.
• Experience supporting SOX controls or external audits.

Target base salary range for this job requisition is anticipated to be approximately $70,000 - $80,000 annualized.
