Job summary

The Guitar Center Company is seeking a Returns Associate to inspect, document, and disposition returned products within the RTV operation. You will log diagnostic results for Vendors and the Private Brands team and respond to store inquiries about product function and warranty as needed.

You will fulfill part requests, label, scan, pack, and move merchandise to support efficient workflow, while maintaining a clean workspace and adapting to workload demands, including possible overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and accurately put away returned products from retail stores.
  • Diagnose product issues and identify failures per warranty guidelines and perform tests.
  • Communicate with store operations regarding transfer and processing of defective warranty merchandise to the DC.
  • Collaborate with Private Brands and vendors to ensure proper testing methods and verification of defective merchandise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
POSITION SUMMARY

Receive, inspect, and evaluate returned products within the Returns (RTV) operation to ensure accurate disposition and documentation. Log and report diagnostic results to Vendors and the Private Brands team, responding to customer and store inquiries regarding product function and warranty as needed. Fulfill part requests and perform general processing functions for the Returns department, including labeling, scanning, packing, and movement of product to support efficient and accurate workflow.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receive, inspect, and accurately put away returned products from retail stores.
  • Diagnose product issues and identify failures in accordance with established warranty guidelines, performing necessary tests on returned merchandise.
  • Communicate effectively with store operations regarding the transfer and processing of Defective Warranty Merchandise to the DC.
  • Collaborate with the Private Brands team and vendors to ensure appropriate testing methods are followed and that only verified Defective Warranty Merchandise is returned.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with all safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting other production areas as needed based on workload demands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the area Supervisor or Manager
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Prior warehouse experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word; able to create and maintain data in requested formats.
  • Experience using inventory management systems (e.g., Green Screen or similar) to research product history and record detailed information preferred.
  • Must be able to read and write English and perform basic arithmetic.
  • Aptitude for working with computer systems and data entry.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency when entering and reviewing information.
  • Well organized, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • High level of initiative; able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to convey detailed information via phone or computer.
  • Strong focus on quality, customer service, and problem-solving, particularly when completing tasks that impact retail locations..
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  • Strong understanding of the setup and operation of DJ, Lighting, Pro Audio, Recording, Keyboard, Guitar, Drum, and Accessory products carried by Guitar Center.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, dependability, and consistent support for company goals and objectives.
PHYSICAL DEMAND AND WORK EFFORT
  • Continuous mental and visual attention required; work involves constant alertness in a warehouse environment.
  • Must be able to use a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in varying temperatures, including hot conditions during summer months.
  • Moderate noise level typical of a warehouse setting.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • The physical demand typically applied in this job includes: lifting, pulling, reaching, carrying, pushing, standing, walking, stooping, and bending.
  • Must be flexible to work overtime, which may be required during peak season.
