Responsibilities

  • Process retirement documents and approve retirements for all service classes.
  • Research, verify and process member retirement account withdrawals.
  • Research, verify and process member beneficiary designations.
  • Respond to customer requests and inquiries regarding benefits.
  • Update member information in the systems and track interactions.
  • Counsel and assist members regarding benefit programs.
  • Prepare standard correspondence relating to benefit programs.
  • Analyze, scan and upload documents to proper workflow.
  • Maintain records, files and reports.
  • Attend work regularly per agency policies.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.

ERS is seeking a Retirement System Operations Specialist to perform entry-level to routine (journey-level) retirement or benefits program assistance work. Work involves maintaining and updating member benefits records, assisting in determining benefits eligibility, and assisting members with retirement or benefits program inquiries. Works under close supervision of the Benefit Support Services Manager with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
  • Processes retirement documents and approves retirements for all service classes.
  • Researches, verifies and processes member’s retirement account withdrawals.
  • Researches, verifies and processes member’s beneficiary designations.
  • Researches and responds to customer requests and inquiries.
  • Updates member information in the systems and tracks member interactions.
  • Counsels and assists members regarding benefit programs.
  • Prepares standard correspondence relating to benefit programs.
  • Analyzes, scans and uploads documents in the system by allocating to proper business workflow.
  • Maintains records, files and reports
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
  • Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinates work with other sections and divisions.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  1. Successful completion of 30 semester hours of college/university credit. Qualifying experience beyond the minimum required may substitute for education.
  2. One (1) year general office, accounting, benefits or payroll experience.
  3. One (1) year researching, retrieving, and providing information.
  4. One (1) year experience using Word or Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Researching and analytical experience using electronic data, procedures, statutes or policy statements.
  2. Experience with Adobe.

Other Information
